She received outstanding reviews for her portrayal of "Betty," a wannabe actress who arrives in Los Angeles hoping to become a star.
In addition to the DreamWorks film The Ring, directed by Gore Verbinski, Ms. Watts will also be seen in Plots with a View, with Brenda Blethyn and Christopher Walken, Le Divorce with Kate Hudson and will soon start filming Twenty-One Grams with Sean Penn and Benicio del Toro.
Ms. Watts's other film credits include Dangerous Beauty, Tank Girl, Wide Sargasso Sea and Flirting.
On television, she starred in the BBC drama The Wyvern Mystery, opposite Derek Jacobi and Iain Glen. She starred in the HBO movie, Persons Unknown, opposite Joe Mantegna and Kelly Lynch, as well as Hunt for the Unicorn Killer for NBC and the Showtime movie, The Outsider, directed by Randa Haines (director of Children of a Lesser God).
Recently, Ms. Watts produced and starred in the short film Ellie Parker, which screened in competition at the 2001 Sundance Film Festival. The film is currently being developed as a feature film. She also received the Best Actress in a Short Film Award from the Method Fest.
Born in England, Naomi Watts moved to Australia at age fourteen and began studying acting while attending school.
McG Hollywood Breakthrough Directing Award
McG's feature film directorial debut, Charlie's Angels, boasts the biggest opening ever for a first-time director. The film debuted at #1 in the United States with over $40 million at the box office. Featuring a star-studded cast -- Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, Lucy Liu and Bill Murray -- Charlie's Angels also opened #1 in 31 territories internationally with total grosses over $250 million worldwide.
McG is currently shooting Charlie's Angels: Halo, the sequel to Charlie's Angels, with the three Angels returning in their roles and Bernie Mac joining the team as Bosley. The sequel is scheduled to be released June 27, 2003. McG is also developing the revitalized Superman franchise for Warner Bros.
Since the unprecedented success of his feature film debut, McG has formed a production company, Wonderland, with producing partner Stephanie Savage. Wonderland has a three-year, first-look deal with Columbia Pictures, where they have several big budget films in development. The company sold its first television series (the pilot was directed by McG) -- a colorful buddy cop show -- to Fox Broadcasting Corporation. This highly-anticipated show, Fastlane, debuts in the fall of 2002. Wonderland's success, with the development of Fastlane, was recently rewarded with a two-year deal with Warner Bros. television.
To date, McG has directed almost 50 music videos, featuring a diverse group of artists such as Mase, Barenaked Ladies, Korn, Everclear, The Offspring, Wyclef Jean, Fastball, Spacehog, Sublime, Cypress Hill, Smashmouth and Sugar Ray. In 1997, he received Billboard's Pop Video of the Year Award for Smashmouth's "Walking on the Sun" as well as the Music Video Production Association's Pop Video of the Year Award for Sugar Ray's "Fly," a song he also co-wrote as well as the hit, "Every Morning.²
Born in Kalamazoo, Michigan, McG grew up in Newport Beach, California. He attended the University of California, Irvine, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology.
