AFTERMATH: THE REMNANTS OF WAR
Special Event Screening
By Invitation Only
Canada

74 mins. Arclight Cinemas Theater 3, 1:15 pm, Oct. 6, Sunday. War has a dirty secret -- it never really ends. Aftermath: The Remnants of War reveals the twentieth century as the most violent in human history, with a death toll of more than one hundred million. Filmed on location in Russia, France, Bosnia, and Vietnam, the film uses archival images and personal accounts of individuals involved in the cleanup of war: from "de-miners" who risk their lives daily, to a treasure hunter turned archeologist in Stalingrad, to doctors struggling with the contamination from dioxin used during the Vietnam War. Its poignant stories present a sobering message of the terrible aftermath of war.

ARMED & INNOCENT
United States - West Coast Premiere

18 mins. Arclight Cinemas Theater 3, 3:00 pm, Oct. 4, Friday. Denied a childhood and often subjected to horrific violence, some 300,000 children are serving as soldiers in current armed conflicts. Narrated by Robert DeNiro, Armed & Innocent is a compelling documentary that shares the personal experiences of the children who have been direct participants in war. Their stories of courage, along with the artwork of former child soldiers collected from around the world, invite the viewer into a world of violence no child should ever experience. These children, who have overcome incredible obstacles to reintegrate into society, tell emotional testimonies of deceit and desperation, but also of strength and hope.

THE BURNING WALL
Winner - Best Documentary
United States - U.S. Premiere

117 mins. Arclight Cinemas Theater 3, 12:30 pm, Oct. 4, Friday.

Burning Wall

The Burning Wall illuminates the profoundly contemporary dilemma of individual resistance within a totalitarian state. It depicts those in the GDR who, under the impact of the Nazi past, and confronted with the State Security Police (STASI), fought for social justice, civil liberties, free speech and human rights, who chose responsibility to their personal code of ethics over that of a suppressive regime and who were willing to die for it. It depicts the astounding groundswell of defiance which finally brought down the Berlin Wall.

Director/Writer/Producer: Hava Kohav Beller
Cinematography: Christopher Lerch, Judith Kaufmann, Harald Klik
Editor: Markus Akira Peters, Lawrence Silk, A.C.E.
Cast: Narrated by John Dildine
