Filmmaking & Storytelling For The New Millennium HOLLYWOOD, CALIFORNIA -- Mr. Carlos de Abreu, founder and executive director of the Second Hollywood Film Festival (r.), announces the official CALL FOR ENTRIES for the 1998 event. "The Second Hollywood Film Festival is an international competitive Festival committed to bridging the gap between Hollywood and emerging independent filmmakers and storytellers. The event begins on August 5, 1998, and it will take place at the historic Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel and the Hollywood Entertainment Museum in Hollywood," he said. The Festival will showcase a selection of both domestic and international feature films, shorts, documentaries, animation and new media works, including a new Hollywood World Cinema sidebar and the Hollywood Independent Filmmaker Award -- an award judged by a committee of independent filmmakers. The awards are comprised of three major categories: Hollywood World Cinema Awards, Hollywood Film Discovery Awards and Hollywood Discovery Cyberawards. The ceremony will be cybercast live on Saturday, August 8, 1998. Prizes include financial awards and packages of goods and services valued at over $100,000. In addition, the Festival incorporates a film market - HollywoodMart(tm) - and a symposium, titled the Hollywood Conference(tm), in which Hollywood pros will participate. This year sponsors include the New York Times, US magazine and Northwest Airlines. The Festival was founded by New York Times bestselling authors Carlos de Abreu and Janice Pennington de Abreu to discover neophyte talent from the global creative community and to introduce their work to mainstream Hollywood. The co-founders, chairs, co-chairs, judges and supporters of the Hollywood Film Festival include Jeff Arch, Tony Bill, Alex Ben Block, John Briley, Laifun Chung, Gene Hackman, Peter Hyams, Henry Jaglom, Charles Joffe, Ted Kotcheff, Martin Landau, George Litto, Mike Medavoy, David Permut, Fred Roos and Mark Rydell among many other Hollywood notables. The 1997 First Annual Hollywood Film Festival was a resounding success with more than 400 film submissions, 140 industry professionals as panelists and guests, and thousands of attendees. Many indie distributors and agencies participated, including CAA, William Morris, ICM, Miramax, New Line, Goldwyn, Fox Searchlight and the Overseas Film Group. The Festival was also attended by many stars and celebrities such as Barbra Streisand, James Brolin, Lydia Cornell, David Carradine, Harry Hamlin, Kirstie Alley, Martin Landau, Joe Lando, Graham Nash, Milton Berle, Gene Barry, Kirk Douglas and Tim Reid, among others.
